About this design
This t-shirt admires the one of (if not the) greatest aerodynamicist/designer Formula one has ever seen, Adrian Newey.
After graduating from the University of Southampton with First Class Honors in Aeronautics & Astronautics, Adrian moved straight into motorsport. Adrian's first official project was the March GTP sports car, he started well with the car winning the IMSA GTP title two years in a row!
He then moved to the March IndyCar project and again his design was highly competitive, winning seven victories including the legendary Indy 500. His design then took the title the following year (1985) and again in 1986.
After this success in IndyCars, Newey decided to return to Europe and Formula One. With short stints with smaller teams such as FORCE, March F1 and Leyton House, Newey then joined Williams F1 in 1990 and finally found himself with decent drivers, a hefty budget and superior recources. By mid 1991, Newey's FW14 chassis was a match for the previously dominent McLaren but bad luck, reliability issues and one certain Ayrton Senna prevented Mansell and the FW14 taking victory that year.
1992 was a different year though and the beginning of Newey Domination. Mansell won the title and Adrian his first Constructors Championship, then again in 1993 with Alain Prost and the FW15C.
1994 was a terrible season with the death of Ayrton and a young German called Michael Scumacher making it difficult for Williams to take the title. Problems began to arise within the team (for many reasons including possible manslaughter charges and court cases over Ayrton Senna's death) - 1995 and 1996 saw a rift between Williams and Newey open up and even though Damon Hill & Jacques Villeneuve won 2 more championships for Williams, Newey was effectively pushed out of the team for what could only be described as a clash of characters.
After breaking ties with Williams, Newey moved to McLaren in 1997, and although it was too late to influence the 1997 McLaren MP4/12, the 1998 & 1999 McLaren's took the World Championships.
By the end of the 1990's, Newey designed cars had won 6 out of 10 World Championships and taken 67 wins... his reputation was soaring.
His winning ways were put on hold for a number of years by the domination by Schumacher and the Rory Byrne designed Ferrari's, but the McLaren's were always up there fighting and Newey designs continued to some degree of success.
Enter Red Bull Racing. 2006 saw Adrian move to Red Bull Racing. He obviously could not alter the 2006 car, but 2007 and 2008 saw the Red Bull cars increasingly become more successful and 2009 saw that pattern continue with the team securing second in the constructors championship with 1-2 finishes at Shanghai, the British Grand Prix and Abu Dhabi.
2010 has built on that performance and mid-way through the season, Webber is leading the World Championship with his young team-mate Vettel not far behind, lets hope it is another win for Adrian Newey and a first for Red Bull, Webber or Vettel.
Either way, the 2010 RB6 is an incredible car taking every pole position so far this year bar one, and the car is often 1 second per lap faster than its competition, and believe me, in F1 that is a MASSIVE gap. This is very impressive considering the Renault engine that powers the RB6 is considered to be one of the least powerful on the grid.
