About this design
This t-shirt design is in admiration of Alan Turing.
Not many people have heard of the British mathematician Alan Turing which is incredible, since Turing is one of the most intriguing and influential figures in human history. A big statement, yes, but it was Turing who defined the concept of the universal machine, which underpins the computer revolution... the world relies so much now on computers, they are in everything we use and every one of them still operate on the very same principle Turing devised.
If that isn't enough to make him a genius, he was one of the leading brains behind the cracking of the German Naval Enigma machines used during WW2. If Turing didn't break that code, D-Day couldn't have gone ahead as it did, imagine how different things would be now if it was never cracked?
Turing was such a brilliant mathematician and gave the world so much, it is appalling and embarrassing (and hard for me to write) that he was "chemically castrated", (forced to take female hormones) and ostracised by the British Government after the war had ended, all because he admitted he was gay.
Turing did not want to live his life as a lie and never tried to hide his sexuality. He never did anything to hurt anyone and spent his life defending Britain during war and devising a machine that has transformed human history in so many ways.
Alan was given an official apology from the British Government 55 years after his death. It read in part: we're sorry, you deserved so much better. He certainly did.
