About this design
During his 6 year career, Beardsley established himself as an illustrator closely associated with the Aesthetic Movement of the late 19th century, with close ties to the Yellow Book. Aligned with the Aesthetic movement, the majority of his work is done in ink. Having illustrated Salomé (Wilde), he also produced illustrations for Le Morte d´Artrhur (Malory) and the savoy magazine. In 1897 he converted to Catholicism and he begged his publisher not to continue publishing his illustrations for Lysistrata, only to be ignored. However, he would only have to suffer this embarrassment for another year, as in 1898 he died of T.B. at the age of 25.
