Of the 25 losses about half were suspect and the rest could probably be put down to consistently fighting above his weight. Naturally a middle weight, he spent nearly as much time in the ring with light heavy weights and heavy weights. Given his relations with the BBBC it`s likely all his draws were wins in a corrupt pair of shorts. He was said to have been shut out of title fights by the BBBC. Certainly he was Scotland`s longest reigning champion 1938-1950. Scottish middleweight Champion, 1938-46 Scottish light-heavyweight Champion, 1945-50 No.1 contender UK, middle & light-heavyweight, probably Britain`s most avoided opponent from 1939-1948. Certainly he was said to have been shut out of title fights by the BBBC.
