About this design
Donald Byrd, 'veteran' Blue Note trumpeter and hard-bop pioneer, was convinced that jazz progressed in five-year leaps. With his landmark 1975 set `Places And Spaces`, he certainly advanced the form by ushering in the era of jazz-funk fusion. Sheets of sawing strings, lush instrumentation and irresistible vocal hooks provided the `spaces` in which Dr. Byrd could splash his fluid, colourful brass lines, and atmospheric cuts like `Night Whistler` and `Wind Parade` are still widely sampled to this day.
