About this design
Using just 256 words, Abraham Lincoln would give one of the most memorable oratorical 2 minutes in American history. In doing so, however, he would appear to belie his own words `The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here`. The speech encompassed the principles of human equality, American unification and a redefining of the civil war as the birth of freedom. The image that sits behind the 50 stars was by the photographer Timothy H. O`Sullivan. It depicts a scene following the battle at Gettysburg and is called `The Harvest of Death`.
