About this design
The image on the t-shirt is taken moments after Greg Lemond rolled to a stop on the Champs Elysees on July 27 1986 having won Le Tour de France. It does not look as if he has just raced the last 255km of the 4094 km he has raced in the previous three weeks. The photograph by Phil O’Connor from his book 21 years of Cycling Photography clearly captures a certain amount of "take that in Lemondâ" eyes in his moment of triumph. As a 23 yr old, Lemond won the Maillot Blanc of best performance by a rider under 25yrs of age. He came third overall. An extraordinary performance for a 23yr old riding his first Tour. The following year on team orders Lemond was second overall to Hinault and just 1 minute 42 seconds behind him. In 1986 Hinault apparently broke an agreement to support Lemond in return for Lemondâ sacrifice in 1985. It made no difference to the result. Hinault was beaten.
