About this design
After a controversial partial redevelopment from none other than Norman Foster, Old Spitalfields market remains an attraction for those who seek out the antique, unique and tasty treats it has to offer. Still going strong, it has morphed itself into a springboard for those with creative flare.
Founded in 1638 by Charles I, it's original purpose was for trade of 'flesh, fowl and roots'. The site was used as a wholesale fruit and vegetable market right up until 1991 when such trade was moved to New Spitalfields Market in Leyton, Waltham Forest, East London.
The remaining Horner buildings at the east end of the market, built in 1887, have subsequently been Grade II listed, while just over the road sits Nicholas Hawksmoor's Christ Church.
To head to the area without spending time there would be a crime- not that us here at We Admire are remotely biased!
