About this design
Known mainly for 'The Prince', a treatise on 16th century politics, published 5 years following his death. Niccolo di Bernardo Machiavelli was also a diplomat, historian, philosopher and a writer of plays, songs and poems. A Florentine and the son of an Attorney, he was born into an Italy of warring popes and city states and went onto be a Diplomatic Council and later, head of the Florentine Militia (before being arrested on conspiracy charges and tortured) after which he retired to pursue his writing. He died in 1527 at the age of 58.
