About this design
The modern artist Man Ray is known as a significant contributor to the Dada and surrealist movements and most famous for his avant-garde photography, however it's his ideas on the 'Machine' in the early 20th Century that inspired me to design the Man Ray Apple t-shirt. Man Ray used the machine as a means to express the dilemmas of modern day life and in one example of his work he substituted a screw for a stem in an apple. By inserted a part of the machine into the Edenic fruit that represents good and evil and the fall of man, Man Ray makes us ask ourselves... "Does the fall stem from the machine, or does man's invention of the machine reenact the fall?" (Man Ray and the Machine, by Barbara Zabel © 1989 Smithsonian American Art Museum.)
