About this design
Anyone who watched European or International football in the 1990’s will be familiar with Oleg Romantsev, if not by name then as the serious looking, chain smoking figure who managed the Russian national side and Spartak Moscow.
Despite the glory and success he achieved with Spartak, he rarely smiled or celebrated if his side scored.
In a massive understatement one former player said “he’s hard to please”, after his team had once won a title deciding match 5-0 he forbade the celebrating players to drink champagne for almost letting in a goal at the end.
One of the last great soviet era football managers, he is now retired and lives [one hopes happily!] in the Russian countryside
