About this design
This shirt admires Project Gemini, NASA's second manned space program and an integral part of the Lunar landing effort.
Gemini was a bridge between Project Mercury & Apollo, its aim was to develop more advanced space travel techniques required for Apollo. This was achieved successfully with 10 manned flights occurring in 1965 and 1966. Gemini missions included the first American spacewalk, new orbital maneuvers including rendezvous and docking.
My design shows a photograph of Ed white in the centre, performing the first (American spacewalk) on June 3, 1965.
I have also included the gemini capsule in the design and the names of the 16 astronauts involved in the project including Neil Armstrong, who endured a hair-raising mission with Dave Scott on Gemini 8.
Armstrong & Scott were given the task of performing the first docking of two spacecraft in space. They performed there mission perfectly, but a faulty thruster nozzle (used for maneuvering in space) became stuck on which caused the two joined spacecraft to spin faster & faster. It was only quick thinking from Armstrong & Scott that saved the mission and their lives.
As commander of the mission, Armstrong's calm attitude in a life threatening situation probably had a lot to do with him being selected as Commander of the first ever Lunar landing attempt three years later.
