About this design
Elizabeth I was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. She was the daughter of Henry VIII & Anne Boleyn but famously remained a virgin her entire life which is what ended the Tudor period.
She became queen in 1558 but was cautious, only mildly supporting military campaigns against Holland, France and Ireland but ironically, she will always be remembered as the Queen in power during the defeat of the Spanish armada in 1588, which is viewed as one of the greatest victories in English history.
Within 20 years of her death, she was being celebrated as the ruler of a golden age, an image that retains its hold on the English people. Elizabeth's reign is known as the Elizabethan era, famous above all for the flourishing of English drama, led by playwrights such as William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe, and for the seafaring prowess of English adventurers such as Francis Drake.
This t-shirt celebrates Queen Elizabeth and the golden Elizabethan age.
