About this design
The Shining (1980) wasn't an immediate success. The story, originally by Stephen King, shows what happens when a psychologically unstable writer (Jack Nicholson) accepts a job of winter caretaker at a hotel that always gets snowed in during the winter. Jack's son in the movie, Danny, has psychic abilities, or the "shining," that are discovered by the hotel chef. The shining is the ability to see things in the future or past, such as the ghosts of murdered people in the hotel. When the hotel becomes snowbound, Jack trades his soul for a drink and, on the advice of a ghostly butler who did the same, then tries to murder his wife and son.
The design uses "All work & no play makes jack a dull boy", the words found typed continuously by Jack and the first real signs that things aren't quite right...
