About this design
The Mercedes-Benz W196 was entered into the 1954 & 1955 Formula One seasons. Out of the 12 races it entered, it won 9 of them! It was also the first engine to use fuel injection, which was a spin-off from the Messerschmitt BF109 WW2 fighter aircraft developed by Mercedes engineers.
Famously it was driven by the most formidable driver line-up in F1 history: Juan Manuel Fangio & Stirling Moss.
A beautiful and very successful race-car.
My design includes a cut-away diagram of the car as well as the "Monza" variant of the W196, which has covered wheel arches for improved aerodynamics, this is my favourite version of it.
