Arne Jacobsen t shirt by Toshi

Jacobsen studied at the Architecture School at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1924 to 1927 where he studied under Kay Fisker and Kaj Gottlob, both leading architects and designers.

While still a student, in 1925 Jacobsen participated in the Paris Art Deco fair, Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, where he won a silver medal for a chair design.

Before leaving the Academy, Jacobsen also travelled to Germany, where he became acquainted with the rationalist architecture of Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius. Their work influenced his early designs including his graduation project, an art gallery, which won him a gold medal. After completing architecture school, he first worked at city architect Poul Hols Slash’s architectural practice.

In 1929, in collaboration with Flemming Lassen, he won a Danish Architect’s Association competition for designing the “House of the Future” which was built full scale at the subsequent exhibition in Copenhagen’s Forum. It was a spiral-shaped, flat-roofed house in glass and concrete, incorporating a private garage, a boathouse and a helicopter pad. Other striking features were windows that rolled down like car windows, a conveyor tube for the mail and a kitchen stocked with ready-made meals.

This early success and the winning the commission to design the seaside resort complex in Klampenborg on the Slash resund coast just north of Copenhagen confirmed his status as a leading national proponent of the International Modern Style.

Arne Jacobsen’s long list of architecture triumphs aren’t the focus of my t-shirt design, however. Though he considered himself first and foremost an architect, it is his massively successful Series 7 model 3107 chair design I have focussed on. With his strong affinity for Gesamtkunst came the need for furniture design in keeping with his architectural philosophy. It is safe to say many of his chair designs became almost more famous in their own right than the architectural projects for which they were designed.

His Drop and, Egg chairs are design classics still, while his Series 7 Model 3107 is the more successful daughter of his Ant chair, designed to be strong, light and stackable. The Ant chair was created for his extension of the Novo pharmaceutical factory in 1951. These bent ply wood designs took inspiration from, among others, Charles and Ray Eames.

Not only has the Series 7 chair become a classic still in production and present in living rooms, restaurants and offices across the globe, it was also the chair chosen to maintain Christine Keeler’s modesty in the now infamous nude portrait taken at the height of the Profumo affair in 1963.

I’m not sure how Jacobsen himself would feel about it but I think it was the perfect choice.

The shirts:

These t shirts are unique for being made exclusively for us wholly with cool-max-image-e1485361440757.png fibres ring spun into yarns manufactured exclusively for WeAdmire. These yarns are then knitted into a single jersey fabric suitable for t shirts.

The CoolMax bit exploits the surface tension of water to wick moisture from your skin. It works through micro channels engineered into the profile of the fibre. These channels are physical attributes, they are there for the life of the fibre.

The Fresh FX bit embeds a silver salt in the molecular structure of the fibre that stops the propagation of bacteria which, left unchecked, ultimately cause a sour odour. Because the silver salt is embedded within the fibre it, like the wicking, is similarly permanent; it will not leech out with wear and washing.

These attributes deliver shirts that remain cool and dry almost regardless of what you might do in them and similarly they remain fresh. And the ongoing performance of the fabric is guaranteed. This is important, these shirts will become your favourite items of apparel, you will want to wear your shirts again and again.

These shirts are marvellous to travel with, they stay fresh if you don’t have the chance to wash them, they wash easily when you do have the chance, and they dry super quickly. There is also a very useful side effect to all this: our shirts keep anything you wear on top of them and what you might wear after wearing them fresher too.

The cut and fit and sizing of these shirts is exclusive to us and was specified by Anastasia Vouyouka, a published guru of fit in the fashion industry.

The feel of the very best natural fibre shirts you have experienced with the performance of the fibres that set the benchmarks for wicking and freshness. It is very unlikely you will have experienced this level of technical performance in a decorated t shirt before.
