1948 Maserati T shirt by Peter Hutton

SKU: wa-0053

1948 Maserati 4CLT 48. (48 refers to the 1948 racing season) Often called the Sanremo because it won its debut Grand Prix of that name driven buy Alberto Ascari. Powered by a 1.5 litre four cylinder engine with gear driven double overhead camshafts, two Roots superchargers, one driven from the cam shat the other from the crankshaft and four valves per cylinder with an exhaust pipe for each exhaust valve giving the appearance of an 8 cylinder engine. The engine produced about 260bhp at 7000rpm. By way of contrast: from 2013 1.6 litre turbo charged 4 cylinder GP engines are expected to produce about 600bhp at 12,000 rpm with about 100bhp independently available from a KERS system. The illustration is by Peter Hutton. His style of drawing and fully illustrating the main subject of his art, the engine and particularly in this case the cockpit, easing to a line drawing at the periphery integrates very well with the shirt the illustration is dyed onto. Peter Hutton’s art is reproduced at 1440dpi for these shirts.
