Delacroix tee shirt by Toshi

SKU: wa-389

This t-shirt is in admiration of “La Liberté guidant le peuple”, painted by Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830.
Eugène Delacroix (26 April 1798 – 13 August 1863) was a French artist regarded from the outset of his career as the most important of the French Romantic painters. his work revolved around many themes, many of which were inspired by the works of Shakespeare, Goethe, and Byron, and entailed the motifs of violence and sensuality, perhaps his most widely know piece is Liberty Leading the People.
I have featured Liberty Leading the People in my t-shirt design as it is probably the most allegorical aspects and political significance frequently chosen as symbol of the French Republic or democracy.
A woman personifying the concept and the goddess of Liberty leads the people forward over the bodies of the fallen, holding the flag of the French Revolution. Delacroix depicted Liberty as both an allegorical goddess-figure and a robust woman of the people.
Liberty Leading the People now hangs in the Louvre.
